Ice on Air Conditioning during summer

During the sweltering months of summer, it may seem strange if your air-conditioned is covered in ice.  Although it may seem like an interesting phenomenon, this is actually the clear indication of a significant problem with your air-conditioning unit.  If you continue to let your air conditioner operate under these circumstances, the air conditioner’s refrigerant will freeze all the way back to the compressor and ruin it.

If you notice that the ice is accumulating at a rapid pace, it is best to contact an air conditioning repair specialist to fix the issue.  Most repairmen will determine whether or not the unit can be salvaged with a few simple troubleshooting methods.

In most cases the evaporator unit coil is faulty and causes too much condensation to accumulate on the coils and freeze.  This is typically caused by not having enough refrigerants in the system. This causes pressure to drop to an abnormal rate, and makes the coil very cold.  Another cause of ice accumulation is poor airflow in the system. If airflow is poor, there will not be enough air to warm the system.

To fix this problem it is best to contact an air condition repair specialist to repair or solve the issue.
